The Council’s correspondence with Lloyds Bank

At the timing of writing, the Fairford branch of Lloyds Bank is set to close on 7th November. The Town Council has written to Antonio Osario, CEO of Lloyds,  to ask for justification for the closure.  The  reply we received did not answer the questions asked.  We responded to request further information and received an even more inadequate reply.  The Council has contacted Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP to ask for his support in our efforts to halt the closure. We will be meeting him on 8th October at his constituent surgery in Cirencester.

The Council has written to the Banking Ombudsman outlining our concerns that Lloyds Bank has not followed the BBA protocol which stipulates that the bank should consult with the local community.  The Council has also written to Prof. Russel Griggs OBE who is  carrying out an independent review of bank branch closure protocol for the BBA.

Your Council will continue to fight to halt the closure, and also to support alternative banking arrangements in the town.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO CUT SPEEDING IN FAIRFORD

You are invited to a Public Meeting regarding Community Speed Watch in Fairford to be held on Wednesday 28th September at 7pm in Fairford Community Centre.

Community Speed Watch (CSW) is a locally driven initiative where members of the community can – with the support of the Police – monitor speeds of vehicles using a speed detection device (speed gun). Vehicles exceeding the speed limit are referred to the Police with the aim of educating drivers to reduce their speeds. Fairford Town Council already has its own speed detection device, but requires volunteers willing to be trained by the Police on how to use it. Training takes place on a Saturday at Cirencester Police Station and is not complicated.

As real or perceived speeding in certain areas of Fairford continues to be a concern, the trained volunteers will be needed for an hour or two on an occasional basis to conduct speed monitoring to encourage motorists to reduce their speed and increase public awareness of inappropriate speeds.

If you would like to help or you know someone who would like to be involved, please do come along. The Police will be at the meeting to explain how the scheme works.

If you cannot attend the meeting, but would like more information, please contact the Town Council Office on 01285 712344 or Chris Roberts on 01285 712150.

Bus Service Feedback

The bus service in Fairford has recently changed, and a reduced service is currently being run serving Fairford and the surrounding villages.

The Town Council has no power to change this situation, however a large community voice may help to persuade Gloucestershire County Council to increase the services offered.

The County will only run a well-used, regularly used bus service. If you need a particular route that is no longer in operation, or a route to be run at a particular time, then let us know.

Please fill out the form attached and return it to the office.

All of your feedback will be sent on to Alan Bently at Gloucestershire County Council.
