Councillor Vacancy – deadline for applications 30th April

There is a vacancy in the office of Councillor on the Town Council.

An opportunity to get involved and make a difference.

The Council is at the start of a new year, and making plans for the future of Fairford — be a part of it!

Being a Town Councillor is a rewarding role, and one that does not have to take up a lot of your time. You must commit to at least one Committee meeting per month (all meetings take place on Tuesday evenings), plus the Full Council meeting every 2nd Tuesday.

Beyond that commitment, it is entirely your choice as to how involved you wish to become in helping to shape the future of your town. No special skills are required and training will be given so you can be confident that you can become a great Councillor even if it’s not like anything you’ve done before!

If you are interested, have a look at the Fairford Town Council website for details of the Committees and more information about what the Town Council does.

You can call the office any weekday morning to speak to either of the Clerks, or email any of the current councillors to find out more about the role. All of their details can be found on the website, www.fairfordtowncouncil.gov.uk.

Get in touch by 30th April 2016.

The vacancy will be filled by co-option.

Citizen of the Year Awards

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Fairford Town Council’s citizen awards are slightly different this year. There are now three Citizen of the Year; The Geoff Chick Award and The Albert Alder Award.
The criteria for the Citizen of the Year, however, remains the same and the Council is now inviting nominations for this award, which recognises an outstanding contribution to the town by a Fairford volunteer or volunteers. Nominations for paid work will not be considered.
The Geoff Chick Award is now open to Fairford residents aged 16-19 years, and two lucky people will receive a small grant from Fairford Town Council to go towards enabling them to do volunteer work abroad.
The Young Citizen of the Year Award has been replaced by The Albert Alder Award. This award is designed to recognise contributions to the local environment from young people (aged 19 and under).
Nominations for all three awards should be sent to the Town Clerk either by post to Fairford Town Council, Fairford Community Centre, High Street, Fairford, GL7 4AF or by email to clerks@fairford-tc.co.uk by Sunday April 10.
