Ø  Representatives from the Fairford Emergency Action Group (FEAG) and the River Coln Project Team attended the Environment Agency’s Flood Heroes event on Friday in Witney with David Cameron.  The group had been short listed to receive an award to recognise the work done by the Fairford community in reducing flood risk and creating an emergency action plan.  The FEAG delegates, who were Alison Hobson and Cllrs Joe Cusack Trevor Hing, Maurice Jones, Chris Roberts and Rob Winney, were thrilled to win second place, beaten only by the excellent work carried out in the villages of East and West Hanney in Oxfordshire.

Ø  Since the emergency repair work to the river bank near the Broad Boards was carried out in early December, Cllrs Trevor Hing and Chris Roberts have met with the riparian owner and the EA to discuss the maintenance of this stretch of river.  The Councillors have also met with a representative from the Public Rights of Way Department, who has assured the Council that maintenance work will be carried out on the footpaths and river walk to improve access.  In the meantime, the landowners of the footpaths near Lake 104 have offered to do a temporary fix with gravel to improve the muddy surface.

Ø  The Ernest Cook Trust have just launched a new website – www.ernestcooktrust.org.uk – in order to tell people about what they do and why.  They believe they have a responsibility to help people learn from the land and understand more about how the countryside works.  Being an educational trust, there are grants available to help young people, so visit the website and find out a little bit more about this organisation.
