Ø The work to the River Walk footpath by Snake Lane will hopefully be starting this week. The footpath will not be closed, but warning signs will be erected. There will also be some gravelling work done to the surface of the footpath alongside Lake 104 as a temporary measure to alleviate the excessive mud and make it more accessible to walkers. If anyone has any concerns about any of this work, they should contact the Town Council office on 01285 712344.
Ø The Fairford Branch of the Royal British Legion will meet at the Bull Hotel on Tuesday February 16 at 8pm. New and former members welcome. Membership is open to all, not just those with a service connection.
Ø On Tuesday February 16, the Community Bus will run a trip to Cheltenham departing Fairford at 8.45am and returning at 12.30pm. Cost £3.85. To book a seat or for more information, call at the Volunteer Bureau office in the Community Centre or ring on 01285 713852 or 07528 969181.
Ø Regretfully, the organizers of the Rural Cinema have had to cancel the film scheduled to have been shown on Wednesday February 17 in the Palmer Hall. Details of future films will be advertised soon.
Ø On Wednesday February 17 from 2pm till 3pm, you can go back 4,000 years and explore art of prehistoric people and create your own with Emma Stuart, Corinium Museum. Suitable for 7-12 year olds. Cost £3 per ticket. For further information, please ring 01285 712599.
Ø Fairford Art Society will meet on Thursday February 18 for a Painting Evening from 7pm till 9pm in Fairford Community Centre. Members £1, guests £3. Call Liz Spurway on 01285 712715 for details.
Ø Fairford History Society will meet on Thursday February 18 at 7.30pm in the Farmor Room at Fairford Community Centre for a talk by Jude Barrett, Education Officer at the Ashmolean Museum, which was extensively refurbished during 2009. The subject of the talk is “The Ashmolean Transformed”. For more details, call Alison on 01285 711768.
Ø Fairford Amateur Dramatic Society presents a pantomime “Goose” by Norman Robbins in the Palmer Hall. Evening performances start at 7.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday February 18, 19 and 20 with a 2.30pm matinee performance on Saturday February 20. Tickets cost £6 each (£4 for seniors and 14 years and under) and are available from the Post Office, Fairford.
Ø If you have young children and enjoy using the children’s play equipment with them in the Walnut Tree Field, would you like to have some input about how this facility could develop in the future? Ø The Town Council has a box of biodegradable doggy poo sacks, which are available for anyone wishing to use them. They are free of charge. Please call into the Town Council in the Community Centre.
Ø Baby Bounce and Rhyme sessions are held every Wednesday from 10.15 till 10.45am at Fairford Library. Songs and rhymes for babies and their grown ups. These sessions are free. No advance booking required.
Ø On Saturday February 13, Fairford United Church is holding a Coffee Morning and Bring and Buy from 10am till 12 noon. The United Church also extends a warm welcome to their service on Sunday February 14 at 10am with Mr Mike Dearsley.
