Ø  The extension of the 30mph speed limit along Coronation Street through The Garretts took effect on February 15.  The extension was made following public requests in order to improve driver behaviour and reduce the risk of accidents.  There were no objections raised to this proposal. 

 

Ø  The plastic recycling bins for plastic and clothing, which were situated in the car park at Fairford Town Youth Football Club, have been removed.  Cotswold District Council is currently looking for an alternative site for them.  In the meantime, the nearest facility is in Lechlade.  If anyone can think of a suitable site for recycling bins in Fairford, please let me know. 

 

Ø  Fairford Art Society will meet on Thursday March 4 at 7.30pm in Fairford Community Centre for an evening with Colin Palmer (www.colinpalmer-illustration.co.uk) about Architectural Painting.  Members £1, guests £3.  Call Liz Spurway on 01285 712715 for details.

 

Ø  Fairford United Church’s Contact Group will meet on Friday March 5 at 2pm till 4pm.  Meet up with friends old and new over tea/coffee and cake.

 

Ø  June Lewis Jones, Fairford historian, will be talking about her new book “The Cotswolds at War” at Lechlade Library on Friday March 5 from 6pm till 6.30pm.

 

Ø  There will be a Family Fun Morning on Saturday March 6 from 10am till 12 noon at Fairford Library.  A pre-school storytime and craft activity at 10am, baby bounce and rhyme for babies up to 18 months and their grown ups at 10.30am, springtime craft activity for 6-11 years also at 10.30am (please book in advance).  All activities are free.  Refreshments available.  For details, contact Fairford Library on 01285 712599.

 

Ø  There will be fundraising lunch on Sunday March 7 at 12.30pm in the Farmor Room of Fairford Community Centre.  Proceeds will go to the St Mary’s Church Flower team for flowers for the Festival of Flowers, which is scheduled to take place in June.  Tickets cost £10 to include a glass of wine and are available from Heather Gorton on 01285 712428.

 

Ø  On Tuesday March 9, the Community Bus will run a trip to Sainsbury’s departing Fairford at 1pm and returning at 3.30pm.  Cost £3.50.  To book a seat or for more information, call at the Volunteer Bureau office in the Community Centre or ring on 01285 713852 or 07528 969181.   

 

Ø  The next full Town Council meeting will be held on Tuesday March 9 at 7pm in the Barker Room, Fairford Community Centre.  Members of the public are welcome to attend.  For details or an agenda, call the Town Clerk on 01285 712344.

 

Ø  Fairford Town Council will be holding a Council Surgery on Wednesday March 10 between 10am and 11am in the Barker Room of Fairford Community Centre for anyone with any Council related questions or issues.  No appointment necessary.

 

Ø  Fairford Gardeners’ Club’s Annual Spring Show will be on Thursday March 11 in Fairford Library.  All entries to be in place by 8pm.  This will be followed by light refreshments.  Visitors welcome.  Details from Don Cobbett on 01285 712692 or Marion Lloyd on 01285 850280.

 

Ø  Fairford WI is a very friendly group with an interesting and varied programme for the coming year.  It ranges from talks on Glen Miller; gardening myths and legends; travels with the BBC World Service; Cider with Rosie; a cookery demonstration; an evening of Belly Dancing and another of African Drumming.  We normally meet in the Palmer Hall at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of the month.  Visitors are always very welcome at any of our meetings.  For further information, contact 01285 711373. 

 

Ø  It is now time to start thinking about sending in nominations for the Fairford Citizen of the Year and the Geoff Chick Award (formerly the Young Citizen of the Year).  If you would like to nominate someone from Fairford for either category, please write to the Town Council, Fairford Community Centre, High Street, Fairford, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
