Ø Fairford Festival is desperately in need of someone to organise the 10k Road Race. If no one offers to help with this major event, then it will not take place. Deadline for offers of help are needed by February 28. After this date, the Festival Committee will make the decision whether or not to go ahead with the 10k Road Race. Ø On Monday February 28, the Community Bus will run a trip to Central Swindon departing Fairford at 9am and returning at 12.30pm. Cost £3.50. The trip on Wednesday March 2 is to Blunsdon Market departing Fairford at 10am and returning at 12.15pm. Cost £3. Ø On Monday February 28 from 10.30am to 12.30pm, there is a course on “Writing good copy” presented by Debbie Sarjant at Farmor’s School as part of the Cotswold Women in Business initiative. Debbie is an author, journalist and copy writer and will help you write copy for marketing your products and services. Bring what you are working on to the session and Debbie will help you refine and perfect it. Ø The Ad Hoc Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday March 1 at the new time of 4pm at 7a Coffee Shop, Fairford. This is a club for people who enjoy reading and discussing literature. Cost £1. The book for discussion at this meeting is “You’re Next” by Gregg Hurwitz. No appointment necessary, just turn up ad hoc.
Ø The next Fairford WI meeting is on Wednesday March 2 at 7.30pm in the Palmer Hall. Lynette Lloyd will be giving a “Pampered Chef” cooking demonstration. The competition is “An Old Fashioned Cooking Utensil”. Visitors welcome. For details, contact 01285 711373.
Ø Following the recent success of a First Aid Training Pilot Project undertaken in Fairford, which provided free first aid training for members of the Fairford Emergency Action Group, the Community Resilience Team at Cotswold District Council, in partnership with The British Red Cross, is delighted to present a new first aid training opportunity. There will be two 3 hour training sessions provided by a qualified British Red Cross trainer and covering topics including how to respond to the needs of an unconscious casualty, responding to casualties with major injuries and undertaking cardio pulmonary resuscitation. One will take place on Friday March 4 from 2pm till 5pm at Moreton-in-Marsh and the other on Friday March 18 from 2pm till 5pm at Cirencester. The sessions have been specially provided for volunteers from the community who are either actively involved or becoming involved in community resilience activities. Ø On Friday March 4, it is Women’s World Day of Pray and there will be a meeting in the Community Centre at 2pm. The topic this year is “The Women of Chile”. Everyone is welcome.
Ø Following on from Fairford Primary School’s success in being awarded the Gold Singup Award in 2009, the children and staff are now celebrating receiving the Platinum Award. It is believed the school is the first school in Gloucestershire and only the 49th in the whole country to receive this award. There will be an official presentation after half term.
