Ø  Tickets are now on sale for the Fairford and District Choral Society’s next performance, which is on Saturday April 9 at 7pm at St Mary’s Church, Fairford.  It will be Dvorak’s Stabat Mater preceded by a contribution from the Choir of Fairford Primary School.  Return visit by soloists Natania Phillips (mezzo soprano) and Henry Herford (bass) and first appearance with F&DCS by Katherine Crompton (soprano) and Nicholas Pritchard (tenor).  Fiona Brown on the organ.  Tickets available from Blenheim Antiques, Fairford Market Place or from John and Jane Read on 01285 713681 or on the door.

 

Ø  Fairford Art Society’s meeting in Fairford Community Centre on Thursday March 3 at 7.30pm will feature a demonstration by Joan Lyons – Flowers in Acrylics www.joanlyons.co.uk.  For enquiries, contact Charles Bowring on 01285 712309.

 

Ø  On Tuesday March 8, the Community Bus will run a trip to Sainsbury’s departing Fairford at 1pm and returning at 3.30pm.  Cost £3.50.  To book a seat or for more information, call at the Volunteer Bureau office in the Community Centre or ring on 01285 713852.

 

Ø  The next Town Council Surgery will be on Tuesday March 8 from 6.30pm till 7pm in the Barker Room of Fairford Community Centre.  Any member of the public is welcome to come along without an appointment to ask questions or voice concerns.

Ø  Fairford Town Council is now asking for nominations for the 2011 Citizen of the Year Award and the Young Citizen of the Year Award (now known as the Geoff Chick Award).  If you know of anyone who has carried out good work for the local community and deserves recognition, please write to the Town Clerk before the deadline of Thursday March 31.  The winners will receive a monetary prize and all nominees will receive a Fairford Town badge or medal.  The winners will be announced at the Annual Town Meeting on April 14.

 

Ø  Fairford and Lechlade Business Club are pleased to organise another Food & Drink Festival for Fairford and Lechlade.  The Lechlade Food & Drink Festival will be held on Sunday May 1 and the Fairford event will be on Sunday June 5.  There is, however, still time to get involved by renting a stall to showcase your food and drink related product; hold an in-house event or sponsor the Festivals.  To find out more, phone Chris on 01285 712150; email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Ø  Fairford Community Centre continues to improve its services to the local community.  There is now a newly fitted projector and large pull-down screen in the Farmor Room and a second hearing loop in the Barker Room.  The Centre recently passed Stage 2 of the Hallmark scheme, which is the quality standards scheme for Village halls, with congratulations from the assessors on the hard work done to achieve this level.  There are 6 rooms to let, catering for various sizes from small groups to more than 100, including a large office suitable for business meetings, plus kitchen and a pleasant courtyard.  Rooms can be booked by the hour, the day or for longer periods.  For details, phone 01285 711571, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Ø  Fairford Bridge Club is looking for new members and is running a special New Year promotion for rubber bridge players to introduce them to the duplicate game.  Those who already play duplicate Bridge will be most welcome to attend the weekly Club sessions every Tuesday evening at 7.15pm in Fairford Community Centre.  Cost to include tea/coffee and biscuits is £1 for members and £1.50 for visitors.  For more information, please phone Geoff or Margaret Bishop on 01285 713747 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
