An appeal to the people living in Fairford, Lechlade and surrounding villages is being made as the League of Friends of Fairford Hospital undertakes its biggest fund-raising effort of the year.
 In his message going out to households all over the area, the League’s chairman, Mr David Phillips, said: “We do not believe that the £85,000 we spent in 2010 will be sufficient to sustain and increase all our services.
 “We wish to maintain our contract with the Prospect Hospice at its present level and thus we need to increase our income to achieve this as well as maintaining what we currently do.
 “This is why we hope to open a charity shop in Lechlade shortly.
The house-to-house collection runs from March 20 to April 4.
