MAYOR’S INTRODUCTION

At long last the summer months are back with us and along with summer comes the fantastic carnival atmosphere associated with the Fairford Festival. As part of this year’s Festival, I have had the honour of judging the Fairford’s Got Talent competition organised by the Palmer Hall Committee and also the May Day Festival Queen competition in the Bull Hotel. The new Festival Queen, Libby Priestman will be accompanied by Katie Samuel the Princess, and her entourage in leading the Festival Parade on Saturday 31st May. Thirteen year old Abbie Lea Drew, who won the talent competition, will have the honour of performing at the Festival Ball on Friday 30th May.

Once again, the flags of all 50 nations who have been represented at the Air Tattoo have been on display throughout the town. These will be returned to the organisers of the air show in preparation for the visit of Her Majesty the Queen, who will be making a special presentation to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force at this year’s event.

I would like to pass on the thanks of the Town Council to former District Councillor and Former Town Mayor, Cllr Freda Lang, who has resigned after a very productive 20 years on the Town Council. Freda’s skills and experience will be sorely missed and her resignation now leaves a vacancy on the Town Council. If you feel you could make a contribution to the Town, please contact the office staff for further information.

The Community Centre, which has now been handed back to the town after its £1,250,000 refurbishment will be officially opened by Henry Elwes, the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire in a ceremony to be held on Saturday 14th June. The new facilities are extensive and a number of rooms are now available for clubs and groups of all sizes. The Council Office staff are available from 10am to 1pm daily to take room bookings for both the Community Centre and the Palmer Hall.
