Fairford Cricket Club News PDF Print E-mail

FAIRFORD CRICKET is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the county having been formed during the 1800's. Located at Park Street, the Cricket Club field 2 senior teams every Saturday and an occasional XI on Sundays. The Club’s Saturday sides compete in the Gloucester County Cricket League but for those who enjoy 20/20 cricket, the club also enters a team into the Cotswold District Cricket Association league. During the season, practice nights are held on Tuesday (for the men’s and youth players aged 14 — 16) when the Club utilize the bowling machine, mobile net and artificial wicket.

Social events run high on the Club’s agenda. They have a well—stocked, very reasonably priced bar at the clubhouse and they run a number of events such as bar-be-ques, quizzes, 10-pin bowling nights and, of course, the annual dinner where presentations are made to the season’s high-flyers. The Club also organizes a 6-a-side competition every year where local pubs and clubs to asked to chance their arms at a shortened version of the game. Last year’s events were extremely well supported with teams and families enjoying a couple of very successful days at the Cricket Club.

The Club is always looking for new members, young or old, and all abilities will be catered for.  The Club is also extremely keen to invite boys and girls born between lst September 1997 and 31st August 2002 to the club where they will benefit from top coaching every Friday evening from 9th April through to 23rd July.

If you are interested in playing for Fairford please call (01285) 885735/713744 or e-mail the Club at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Directions: The Cricket Club is located at Park Street which is reached by turning off the A417, driving up the High Street (passing the Bull Hotel and the church on your left) and then turning right at the top. The Cricket Club is then on the left about 400 yards along Park Street.

A NEW BEGINNING FOR FAIRFORD TENNIS CLUB

Fairford Tennis Club has benefited from recent work carried out resurfacing the two hard courts in the picturesque setting of Walnut Tree Field in the centre of Fairford.  In addition the club hut has undergone a facelift and the daffodils are conveniently at their best!  Moreover a rejuvenated committee have set about planning for a more active club life, including dedicated club member sessions, coaching for juniors and adults alike and an exhibition/challenge tournament to coincide with the Fairford Festival.  The club is actively seeking members to join and be involved in both the social side of the club as well as the playing side,  There are ladies' and men's teams playing in the Gloucestershire league and newcomers would be very much welcomed.  Fairford Tennis Club is particularly proud of the junior talent that has grown up on its courts and recognises the value of nurturing such talent with some very reasonably priced membership rates and new opportunities for coaching.  For all membership enquiries please contact Sally Peachey on 01285 750492 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Membership is due to commence from 1st of May and the padlock will be changed on 11th May.  The courts are playable, but will have the final beautifying 'top coat' painted and smart new lines painted by the end of April.  We look forward to you joining us!
