fairford town crier - maurice jones

TOWN CRIER

A popular sight on the streets of Fairford is the town’s own Town Crier, Maurice Jones. Born and bred in Fairford, Maurice became a temporary freelance Town Crier in 1975 and was officially appointed Town Crier in 1983. He joined the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers and now serves on their board of Directors.

In 2000 Maurice Jones and Fairford Town Council hosted the National Guild Championships where nearly 30 Town Criers came to Fairford to compete.

Maurice is also available to open functions and make personal greetings. Arrangements for this can be made through the Council Offices.

fairford steam rally and showFAIRFORD STEAM RALLY AND SHOW

From the official website;

The Organisers of Fairford Steam Rally and Show are pleased to announce that it is intended to run the Annual Rally in Fairford on 21st & 22nd August 2010.

"As many of you know, since 1969 there has been a rally in Fairford Park each year, excluding two which had to be cancelled through no fault of our own.

The rallies have been well attended and it known for its compactness and attractions
for all the family. Exhibitors and visitors come from all parts of England and quite a few foreign visitors too.
We think we have a perfect setting for a rally, this being held in parkland in Fairford
Shops and the well known St. Mary’s Church with the famous stained glass windows
To be found just across the road.

If you are thinking of coming along to Fairford Rally this year for the first time be assured there is entertainment for all.

If you wish to enter something at the rally you may not have engines or cars etc but you may wish to exhibit in the Model Tent. The Horticultural tent too has something to entice you to have a go, not just gardening and cookery but such things as photography can be entered. If you are interested in Crafts, then perhaps you may wish to work in the Craft tent.

The organising committee is very small but all work hard. We have section Leaders who again work to collate a good selection of exhibits for display.

Come along and have an enjoyable day out – or maybe make it a weekend there is so
much to see."
